What is gender-affirming gear??
Gender affirming gear is tools or objects that re-affirm one's identity. This may be in the form of clothes, chest binders, gaffs, or many other forms of 'gear'.
Why is gender-affirming gear important??
Gender affirming gear is very important for transgender people as it reaffirms their identity. This may impact a condition called gender dysphoria if it is present. The alleviation of gender dysphoria and the creation of gender euphoria is shown to aid transgender folks. This affirmation not only results in positive mental health but also works towards eliminating unsafe gender-affirming processes/items. By providing gender-affirming gear, and usage instruction, this limits the damage that often occurs by using unsafe binding/tucking practices.
Chest Binder Program
Chest binders are fabric garments that resemble tank tops and are used to flatten or bind the chest of the wearer. Chest binders are currently the safest way to bind one's chest versus unsafe binding practices such as utilizing ace bandages.
Gaffs Program
Gaffs are fabric garments, which resemble underwear that is utilized to tuck or create a flat image for those with societally perceived male genitalia. Gaffs are currently the safest way to tuck versus unsafe tucking practices such as utilizing duct tape.
